Periwinkle is both a gorgeous colour and a cracking name. In fact, should I ever have children I will name one of them that, regardless of gender or how much playground ridicule it may result in. The therapy bills will be well worth it in exchange for being able to say such a wonderful word on a daily basis. Or maybe I’ll burden a small dog with the name instead so I can hollar it loudly while jogging in Holland Park… But anyway, I digress. I got this dress a while ago from Self Portrait and can’t believe how long it’s taken for me to share it with you guys in a Look Du Jour post. Isn’t it just the prettiest thing? Divine though the frock is, I wasn’t entirely sure when to wear it because the colour is more traditionally summery but the long sleeves make it a tricky option for heady July night. It would in fact be ideal for those early Spring evenings when you’re sick to death of knitwear and autumnal hues but it’s still effing freezing and you don’t actually want to get hypothermia. Then again, thanks to the AW13 collections dreamy pastel shades are totes acceptable for the chillier months and frankly there was no way I was keeping this beauty under wraps until February! For the purposes of this photo, I styled my periwinkle blue beauty with my Nicholas Kirkwood for Erdem Mary-Janes, AKA the most beautiful yet painful shoes I own. The I added my beloved Alberta Ferretti bag of a similarly blue hue and ice white pop socks because I felt it was far too long since I’d worn a pair and had an inkling (or should that be a winkling?… Sorry) they would look adorable with it. I reckon they did, although I fear they’re enough of a man deterrent to totally counteract the effects of quite such a crotch skimming thigh grazing hemline. Ah well, I felt fabulous while wearing this get up and got tons of compliments from my fellow diners at CARAT’s elegant dinner. Boys be damned, that’s what it’s really all about!
Do you have any more summery pieces you just can’t resist wearing RIGHT THIS SECOND? I’m all about doing new season now…
Love Ella. X
