Look Du Jour: All About Alice

What: Alice + Olivia coat (available here), shirt (available here), skirt (available here), wedges (available here) and bag (available here) with Kite sunglasses.

Where: Breakfast meeting at Chiltern Firehouse

Prints, prints, glorious prints. Nothing quite like ’em for making you squint! Ok, so I think it’s fair to say that I was never destined for a career as a singer song writer, as much as I not so secretly used to and in fact still do sometimes fantasise about being a pop star. The fact that I have a singing voice better suited to a cat being castrated and am genuinely incapable of holding a tune probably doesn’t help either. Anyway, enough about my vanquished childhood (slash ongoing) dreams of giving Tay Tay a run for her money, let’s talk about this outfit! You may remember the get up from an insta I posted way back in February when I wore it to the Alice + Olivia presentation during New York Fashion Week. Yes that’s right. I wore this cropped shirt, mini skirt, cork wedges combo during a minus 37 degree snowstorm. Admittedly I added tights and a Uniqlo thermal into the mix but if I’m honest, I still thought that I was actually going to die of cold. Ever since then I’ve been not-so-patiently waiting to rock the whole thing exactly how God, or rather how Stacey Bendet, intended and now it’s May I’ve been prancing around town in it rather a lot.

As much as I love mix n’ matching designers with totally different aesthetics or pairing high street and luxury labels, there’s certainly something to be said for wearing a “total look”. Especially when the look in question is by a brand whose aesthetic is one so totally in sync with your own. Between her playful prints, flirty hemlines and penchant for embellishing E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G to within an inch of its like, Alice + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet just knows how to create pieces I adore so much I’m willing to risk frostbite to wear them. Well, either that or I’m a total fashion victim who risks her health and wastes obscene amounts of money on taxis out of sheer vanity. Possibly those two things aren’t mutually exclusive.
