What: Whistles jacket, Coach skirt, Rebecca Minkoff bag, Fendi sunglasses & Charlotte Olympia “Wish You Were Here” shoes
Where: Not New York, sadly
I absolutely cannot and will not spend yet another post talking about how happy I am that Spring appears to be here, but damn it’s hard to resist. Repeating the excuse that it’s “because I’m British” really doesn’t make repeatedly raving about the sunshine any less dull so let’s focus on something else today. That thing will be Charlotte Olympia’s gorgeous “Wish You Were Here” collection.
Ahhh Charlotte Olympia, I could not be more head over heels in love with everything they design. Pineapple shaped clutch bags, banana platforms, leaf slippers and of course the iconic Kitty Flats… It’s all just so joyfully, wonderfully covetable. The latest addition to Charlotte Olympia’s emporium if gorgeousness is, you’ve guessed it, the “Wish You Were Here” collection. Created in collaboration with iconic travel brand, Globetrotter, the brand have concocted an array of embroidered flats celebrating various glamorous getaway destinations as well as leopard print luggage set that is every bit as useful as it is chic. So obviously I was over the moon when Charlotte’s team asked if I fancied stepping out in the pair made in homage to my all time favourite destination, New York City.
Really, a more appropriate title for this Look Du Jour would be “Wish I was There” because I really do. Having skipped NYFW in February it feels like forever since I’ve been in the city I fell in love with over a decade ago. The first time I went to the Big Apple was with my parents aged 11. For reasons I didn’t entirely understand, by the time we’d got from JFK to our hotel I’d decided that this was my favourite place and I was determined to live there when I grew up. That is yet to happen (maybe in the future, who knows!) but my feelings for New York haven’t changed. You can bet that the next time I visit the city I’ll be rocking these Charlotte Olympia x Globetrotter beauties!
I’m a big advocate of building an outfit around a particular piece. It gives you a starting point and make the whole process much more straightforward, even when your job literally is based on your ability to dress yourself well coming up with outfits can still be stressful. Obviously, this outfit began with the shoes. Given their teal hue and intricate embroidered motif, I decided to get a bit of same palette pattern clashing on by pairing them with my beloved chiffon pleated floral Coach mini skirt. This Whistles tassled jacket of dreams happened to be in my apartment because I’d pulled it for a shoot so I couldn’t resist adding it too… Then more tassled blue suede in the form of a Rebecca Minkoff mini bag because, as everyone knows, you can never have too much of a good thing.
What do you think of this Look Du Jour? And which Charlotte Olympia “Wish You Were Here” slippers would you choose?
Love Ella. X
