What: Superdry gingham dress, denim jacket & sunglasses with 3.1 Phillip Lip mules and Aspinal of London bag
Where: The Blue Boat pub, Hammersmith
Is it just me or has gingham been bang on trend for about ten consecutive summers now? Not that I’m complaining. Whether in the form of a slouchy shirt, sculptural silhouetted blouse or sweet sundress, gingham is just plain great. Speaking of sundresses, how adorable is this little number from Superdry?! And where better to wear it than for a dog walk (with plenty of pub stops, obvs) along the river?
I’ve lived in Hammersmith since I was 18 years old, give or take a shared house experience that ended in utter carnage and is a tale for another day/never. Anyway, one of the many reasons I love the area – and West London in general – is the fact that within five minutes, you can be next gazing out over the River Thames or in the heart of Holland Park. Shoreditch citizens can keep their warehouse spaces and exposed brickwork as far as I’m concerned, especially when the sun’s out. As anyone who’s gone anywhere near my instagram recently will be well aware, I recently got a puppy (or “ridiculous bat-weasel”, according to my dad) and am completely in love with her. Having spent years strolling in the park or by the river, sad and dog-less and staring at other peoples pooches, nothing brings me more joy than doing those beloved activities with a dog of my own. Especially when I’m also feeling my outfit, which is the actual point of this post so I’ll restrain myself from going on a pup related rant and get back to it.
Some pairings are just perfect; rose & riversides, steak & frites, Gin & Tonic, leather & lace… The list could go on for God knows how long and it sure as hell includes gingham & denim. Initially this ensemble was all about the dress and the denim jacket was somewhat of an afterthought. Given that I’ve basically not taken if off since, I think it’s fair to say that my “afterthought” has proved to be a good one! As you know, colour co-ordination is my obsession so naturally blue and silver hues were the only accessories option.
One of the best things about this outfit has to be its versatility. On the chillier days that will inevitably come soon, I plan on layering the gingham dress over a plain white t-shirt and adding a pair of white sneakers, possibly a silk scarf too. During the couple of South of France trips I plan on taking this summer, I’ll be rocking it with lace up sandals, cat eye sunglasses and a huge straw hat with a red lip thrown in for glam measure.
What do you think of this Look Du Jour? Are you as excited as me that it’s officially gingham season?
Love Ella x
