Look Du Jour: Seventies Sparkle

What: Alice + Olivia jacket (available here), H&M tank top, Hudson Jeans Taylor Flares (available here), Kurt Geiger Isabella sandals (available here), Paul & Joe bag (similar here) and LeiVanKash ring.

Where: Manolo Blahnik x Falke dinner in London.

As we discussed in a very wintery Look Du Jour post a few months ago, I have fairly recently hopped on board with everyone else in the clothes obsessing world and embraced all things seventies. Well, not all things. My inherently neurotic city dweller nature prevents me from wandering too far down the bohemian path. Easy breezy Woodstock inspired festival garb can look wonderful on other people but personally, only hippy chic in its hautest and most tailored, 5th Avenue appropriate incarnation (think Tory Burch AW15) floats my boat. So, it’s not entirely surprising that immaculately tailored indigo flares and elongated sequinned jackets are the extent of my foray into seventies summer loving… For now at least. The amazing sequinned jacket you may remember from my collaboration with Alice + Olivia a few weeks ago. Good God I’m in love with it. There are some clothes so beautiful you just want to sit and stare at them, which I actually do quite often under the guise of “outfit post planning”. Seriously, even MY DAD took it upon himself to make an unsolicited comment about what an “amazing piece” (I’ve taught him well) it is, quite a feat considering he finds most things I wear to be extremely amusing. Flares are a denim style I’ve dipped in and out of for a few years now. Their leg lengthening properties are extremely attractive but I always thought that they could only be worn on reliably dry days. Living in London, my relying on more than ten minutes of guaranteed non rain would me a bit like my promising that I wouldn’t answer emails while on holiday, AKA optimistic to the point of insanity. Then I thought, screw it. I’m not going to let the, admittedly unpleasant, prospect of soggy ankles stop me from rocking the hottest denim style of the season and am now on a mission to welcome as many pairs of flares into my wardrobe as possible.

Hudson is one of my favourite denim labels and unsurprisingly they totally nailed the wide leg look. Their Taylor flares are a total winner with me. They’re super comfortable and extremely flattering – cut high on the waist and ultra streamlined, without any bulky pockets to add bulges where you don’t want them – and also smart enough to wear for dinners and cocktail do’s thanks to their indigo hue. I’m currently hankering after a lighter wash to pair with a broderie blouse à la Chloe SS15 for long summer lunches and casual afternoon meetings. Tbf this pair would work perfectly for that too I reckon but what can I say, when it comes to clothes I’m just plain greedy.

What do you think of this look? And will you be wearing flares this summer? And if you happen to like this peachy makeup look good news, I’ve posted a beauty “how to” on it here.

Love Ella. X

Ps) Happy Easter!

That jacket is a beauty…. The weather always plays a crucial role in the choice of outfits I go for but sometimes I too don’t give a crap and go for the outfit that I want to wear regardless of the weather ( but I do end up paying the price)

I’m a big fan of the flares because they make petite women like me look super tall and I just love that it is fitted at the right places. Suprisingly I have only one pair but I too like you need to add more

    Loving those shoes as well
